Orissa is located along an unindented alluvial plain along India’s eastern coastline extending to a hilly and mountainous interior. The coastal area is known for its tourism and magnificent temples. The interior is inhabited largely by indigenous people; 87% of the population lives in villages and 25% of Orissa’s population is tribal. Orissa is also home to vast wildlife refuge areas.
